Greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ – HE IS RISEN! What a joyous season we are in; the most joyous and celebrative season of the Christian year. Of course in many ways the Easter Season is inseparable from the Christmas Season. Jesus could not have conquered sin and death from the cross if he had not been born to us. Likewise, the Christmas birth of Jesus would not have its full meaning if he did not eventually go to the cross.
So Christmas and Easter go hand in hand, but there is something unique and special about the Easter Season in that it allows us to celebrate the culmination of the earthly mission of Jesus – he came, he died, he rose again! All for you!
The Easter Season, also known as “The Great Fifty Days” officially begins at sunset on Easter Eve and continues through the Day of Pentecost (this year = Sunday, May 27th). So the Easter Season begins in anticipation of Jesus Christ rising from the grave and culminates with the day that the original disciples of Jesus Christ were given the gift of the Holy Spirit.
But the celebration of the Easter Season is so much more than a quaint remembrance of events that took place long ago. Easter matters now! Easter matters to you! Easter was the beginning of a new age; an age in which we are promised that we can be one with God and one with each other.
The barriers of sin and death have been broken down – not just for the disciples – not just for first century believers – but for all believers, of all times – for you! The incredible gift of life that Jesus has given to us is very real and very much available for anyone who wishes to claim it.
Jesus said: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (NIV, John 14:1-3).
Trust in that promise – if it were not so, Jesus would have told us….. And tell everyone that you know about this incredible promise that God has made (and already kept) for them.
God’s Peace be with you! ---------- Pastor Steve
